Colombia has many rivers and natural Parks, however, when it comes to fishing the Tomo River and the Gavilan River are on top of the list. Virgin and unexplored the Tomo River is home to over 280 fish species, including the much coveted Peacock Bass. Tomo is a big river with lots of structures, white sand beaches, flats, smaller tributaries and an incredible number of lagoons, it isconsidered one of the best rivers in Vichada for trophysize pea cock bass occasionally exceeding 20 pounds and getting up to 28 to 30 pounds.

Countless species of both fauna and flora are going to accompany us in our journey.

When it all come together, nothing beats sight-casting fishing, heart pounding, adrenaline racing, blood rushing, breath stopped, you aim for your target and letthe action begin!

There are few places in South America that will offer the ideal combination, 2 of the most coveted species reunited in the same trip, Peacock bass and vampire fish, Akuani River lodge is a magical place that provides all the comforts of a hotel deep in the Colombian jungle, get to know the Sikuani and Piaroa indigenous communities, out of this world sceneries and the best fishing the country has to offer.

The Vichada River :

Has many lagoons and is a blackwater river (a slow-moving channel flowing through forested swamps or wetlands). You'll find plenty of topwater action and monster temensis (three-bar) peacock bass reaching over 22-pounds. The Vichada is a tributary of the Orinoco.

The Orinoco River :

Is one of the longest rivers in South America, flowing in a giant arc for close to 1,400 miles. The river is considered the fourth largest in the world in terms of discharge volume. You'll fish the Maipures Rapids for 20+ pound payara (vampire fish) in strong currents. On the Orinoco, giant sardinata, resembling an American shad (but much larger), go after small poppers, jigs, spinners, and flies. Use bait to target redtail and shovelnose fish (the ones with distinctive stripes). The Maipures Rapids in Tuparro National Reserve were called the Eighth Wonder of the World by German explorer Alexander von Humboldt and is home to 74 species of mammals, 320 bird species, and many other critters. Pumas, jaguars, and anacondas inhabit the woodlands.

At Akuani River Lodge, you'll be in the Mataven jungle. You'll be amongst the Sikuani people, the local community. It's a special place to get to know their culture. Itemsthey make, such as bows and arrows, are available for purchase. The main lodge sits on top of a large cliff with great views overlooking the Vichada River. It has four spacious cabins, each with two queen beds, private baths, plug-ins for electrical devices, and ceiling fans.
The payara camp is basic and equipped with double occupancy nylon tents with cots.
